VAL DI FUMO

It’s 30 km from the entrance to the Valle di Daone to the end of the Val di Fumo (its continuation): leave everything behind and follow the course of the river Chiese up through the longest valley in Trentino to the heart of the Adamello. After the Malga Bissina dam, continue on foot through one of the most unspoilt parts of the province of Trento: meadows, flowers, grazing horses and cows, with the sound water in the background, and higher up rocks shaped by the ice. Here, in a scenic position at the centre of the valley is the Val di Fumo refuge, built by the SAT in the sixties, bringing together families seeking peace and quiet, mountaineers looking to explore the southern sides of the Adamello Group, and fishermen, who will find in the river Chiese a paradise for Alpine char and trout fishing. Both routes are on SAT paths for experienced hikers (EE). More challenging are the high-altitude traverses to Rifugio Ai Caduti dell'Adamello (5 ½ hours, mountaineering skills required) and to Rifugio Lissone (5 hours 45 min, difficulty EE).
