Turn-by-turn directions

This hike starts in the Warmbad spa gardens (Kurpark).  The path leads past a famous thermal sping- the Maibachl- to the Warmbad plateau.  From here you follow the path north of "Tscheltschnigkogel" through the forest.  The first part of the hike is quite steep.  Then the path crosses over the alps road (Villacher Alpenstrasse), and you hike up a more gradual slope to get to the Völkendorf prairie.  From there is only a short way until you reach "Hundsmarhof," a rustic prairie guest house, where you can feast on Carinthian specialties (closed on Mondays).  To get back, you can either take the same route or you can continue your hike further to "Heiligengeist" and take the bus back to the Villach main train station and get the S2 train back to Warmbad.

You can reach Warmbad with the S2 line of the ÖBB, leaving every hour.  

Getting there

You can take the A2 highway, exit "Villach-Warmbad," to Warmbad.
