On this short but intense hike (also suitable as a nordic walking trail) you cover a lot of altitude in a short time- you will be rewarded with a gorgeous view of Lake Ossiach at the end!

Author’s recommendation

Above the Peterlewand is a beautiful gazebo, perfect for watching the sunrise!

Turn-by-turn directions

After starting at the Bodensdorf tennis courts, follow the footpath and cycle path (path no. 1) in the direction of Annenheim to St. Urban, where you cross the B94 at the Urbani Weinstuben. Follow the Burgweg to the parking lot of the Peterlewand climbing garden and follow the signs uphill towards Peterlewand (path no. 2). The path to the Peterlewand Weg (path no. 7) branches off in a right-hand bend in short, steep switchbacks. After about 15-20 minutes the rock faces of the climbing garden are reached in the flat entry area. Keep to the left here and follow the trail uphill, then cross the climbing garden above the rock faces to the pavilion (caution! Do not throw down any objects such as stones, paper airplanes, plastic bottles, cans, etc.). It is worth taking a break at the pavilion to enjoy the view of Bodensdorf, Ossiach and Steindorf in an easterly direction towards the Bleistätter Moor.

Behind the pavilion, the trail (path no. 7) continues over a short steel staircase in the direction of Deutschberg. After a wooden path, the trail leads into a wider path that leads up towards Deutschberg and down to Tschöran/Bodensdorf. Follow the signs to Tschöran/Bodensdorf (path no. 7) and descend to the evan. Tschöran Church in about 10-15 minutes via Martin Luther Weg.

At the intersection of Martin Luther Weg and Tschöranerweg, turn right and after a few meters turn left again into Neßlbachweg. Without changing direction, it now goes to the B94, which is crossed again to rejoin the footpath and cycle path known from the beginning (path no. 1). Branching off to the left, it's a few minutes' walk back to the starting point at the ice pavilion.

Public transport

Public-transport-friendly
