Circular ST6 AAT: Rifugio Zacchi - Krajnska Gora
From the Rifugio Zacchi (Zacchi mountain lodge) ( 1,380 metres), the trail leads along the Alta Via Alpi Tarvisiane to Cap. Ponza and onwards beneath the summits of the Ponza Grande to the Vratca/Porticina mountain pass (1,844 metres ). The route now runs along an old hunting trail towards the world famous Planica ski flying hill , then continues past the former Podršak guard house towards Rateče. It is worth taking a short break in the Zelenci Nature Park, which is of special geological value, and contains impressive fauna and rare and threatened flora, with numerous springs and an emerald green lake. Here we are on the trail of the famous natural scientist Sir Humphry Davy, who once announced: “I have loved the Sava Valley best with its waterfalls and lakes. I know of nothing in Europe which is more beautiful.”

Turn-by-turn directions
From the Zacchi Mountain Hut, at 1380 m, we follow the CAI trail 512 up to the Capanna Ponza hut, at 1644 m, from where - taking a detour to the right - it is possible to reach the rocky ridge of Porticina, at 1844 m, a small pass facing Val Planica valley.
From the Capanna Ponza hut, we continue almost on the flat and, after a short safety-facilitated stretch, we move on to the wooded ridge of Monte Svabezza.
Still following the path CAI 512 we descend into the woods to the lower Lake Fusine.
We cross the Rio del Lago, the lower lake's outflowing stream, and take the right path on the left of the river.
At the end of the trail we follow the lake road downhill for a hundred meters.
At the first junction we take a right turn and keep to the cart road closed to traffic, which crosses the plain of Torbiera Scichizza, until we cross the cycle path leading to Slovenia.
Following the cycle path we head towards the border which we cross in the vicinity of the Valico di Fusine pass.
The cycle path continues into Slovenia through the Ledine plain until it crosses the road leading from Ratece to the ski jump trampolines of Planica.
We continue straight along an asphalt road, leaving the Zelenci nature reserve to the left (Sava springs) and the Vitranc ski facilities to the right, and after about 4 km on the plain we reach Kranjska Gora, at 810 m, a tourist resort of international renown where the stage ends.
