On this stage you cross the border again while climbing the mountains, called Karawanken. The destination of this stage is the Baumgartnerhöhe, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the turqoise lake Faak (Faaker See).

The tourist resort Kranjska Gora is the starting point for this border-crossing stage and is in winter as well as in summer popular for a wide range of possible activities - whether hiking, nordic walking or cycling. Very close by is the Triglav National Park . From Kranjska Gora , the path leads up to the Karawanken . Along an old border path the way leads uphill towards the " Jepzasattel" - always with a great view of the surrounding mountains and lakes . From the peak of this stage it takes another two hours to reach the destination, the Baumgartnerhöhe high above the turquoise lake Faak.

Turn-by-turn directions
From Kranjska Gora , follow the river Sava and towards Frtalež . Walking past the "rock" continue past to the small farms called " Smolej" and " Hlebanja". From there we go to the Srednji vrh (960 m ) and from there it goes to Hudi hlevi and uphill through the Železnica valley. The hightest point of this stage is the Techantinger Mittagskogel / Trupejevo poldne ( 1,931 m), followed by the Mallestiger Mittagskogel / Maloško poldno ( 1,828 m) and the Schwarzkogel ( 1,751 m). From there we follow an old border path to the east, always along the border between Slovenia and Austria , The path leads to the Jepzasattel ( 1,438 m), a mountain pass, and from there through the forrest on the trail 682 to the Baumgartnerhöhe (919 m).
By road
You can reach Kranjska Gora from Carinthia only by car. Drive to Fürnitz and follow the signs "Wurzenpass".Coordinates
