We can look forward to a largely downhill hiking tour along an old pilgrimage path: from the “Marterle” we walk across romantic alpine pastures and through cool forests directly to Stall im Mölltal. The route takes us partly on forest roads, but mostly on old footpaths through the forests down to Stall.

Just like on the previous day, stage 4 of the Alpe Adria Trail also follows an old pilgrims’ route. Every year, even today, at the end of July, the “Jacob’s pilgrimage” goes from Stall to the “Marterle”.

Safety information

The route is not difficult; however, the paths in the forest are narrow in places – surefootedness and at least a little head for heights are required.

Destination

Stall im Mölltal

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting at the “Marterle”, we follow a forest road for just a short while, and soon turn right into a meadow track, which is somewhat difficult to see at the beginning. Gently descending, we alternately cross forests and open alpine meadows. Dogs must be kept on a lead!

Now we come to a new forest road, which we follow for some time. At a big, wooden fountain we can turn right and short-cut a few turns out of the forest road. At the next right turn we leave the forest road and continue straight ahead on a narrow path through the forest. Near the Prisker estate on the Schwersberg we make a sharp descent, until we reach the road again. Again we leave the road and follow a small track along the Loisengraben crossing several times the road again and finally follow the road down into the valley.

For the last time now we change from the road to a footpath, which leads us along the main road directly to the church in Stall im Mölltal – the destination of today’s stage.

A lovely trip down hill. A lot of different small paths, and we have to climbe some big trees: they were lying on the path, because of a 'versperrung'. We helped our dog to climbe over, and this part was the most adventure part of this tour to Stall. We ended at Dorfschenke pension, a nice place to stay: clean, a big room, nice comfortable shower and enough space to let our wash dry.
