ST24 AAT: Trenta - Bovec
This stage follows the marked, well-kept Soča Trail and leads almost continuously along the emerald green Soča River and at the same time through the part of the unspoilt Triglav National Park. At the suspension bridge over the Kršovec gorge on the border of the Triglav National park, the route continues towards Vodenca, crossing the confluence of the Soča and Koritnica rivers and reaching Bovec soon afterwards.

The narrow Trenta Valley, through which the emerald Soča River flows, widens out and enthrals with its typical grassy areas and farms. Attractive campsites invite hikers and visitors to relax. In this section, the Alpe Adria Trail coincides with the Soča Trail which leads along the Soča River, crossing it from time to time, until the Trenta Valley widens into the Bovec Basin. Now the trail leads into the centre of Bovec situated at the foot of the mighty Mt. Rombon and Mt. Kanin. Bovec was first mentioned 1174, but the moving history of this attractive place extends much further back. Along this section of the trail, largely running through the Triglav National Park, there are numerous resting places with descriptions of attractions. On your way you can also taste and buy the famous Bovec cheese.

Turn-by-turn directions
From Dom Trenta – the Trenta visitor centre – we return to the Soča Trail down the valley. We cross the main road and follow the Soča River along its left bank. We hike through forests, across meadows and pastures, and past a large rockslide. Two information panels provide information about rockslides and the local vegetation. The trail ascends steeply to a small waterfall and then descends again from here, and finally we reach the Small Soča gorge close to a guest farm. The trail leads past another information panel with information about the architectural heritage of Trenta, past the village of Soča and the Great Soča Gorge. From the suspension bridge, we can enjoy an impressive view of the gorge that is 750 metres long and 10 to 12 metres deep, in some places only 2 metres wide. We continue along the gorge until we reach the beginning of the Lepena Valley, where the gorge ends. At a nearby campsite, we can visit the confluence of the Rivers Lepenjica and Soča. We cross the bridge over the Lepenjica and walk along the right bank. We cross the Soča again and our route now leads over another bridge, continuing along the left riverbank. Soon we reach the gorge at Kršovec. After the gravel road on the left bank of the river we keep following the Soča Trail and cross a wooden bridge at Brjeka, which is one of the most picturesque spots on our way. We continue towards the hamlet Vodenca, where we can see the confluence of the rivers Soča and Koritnica. This time we cross the Koritnica and pass several campsites. After a steep but short ascent on the asphalt road, we follow a short trail on the right through the forest, continue across the field where we can already see the church of Virgin Mary in Polje (Devica Marija v Polju) in front of us and walk past it to the centre of Bovec.
