Background: St. Wolfgang’s Church was first mentioned in writing in 1449. At that time it was known as “St. Wolfgang am Fratres”. Three Carolingian (9th- 10th c.) ornamental stones can be seen on the outer wall next to the portal. Pilgrimages are made twice a year (at Easter and Whit Monday). On Easter Monday it is a tradition to auction pigs’ trotters (takings are
used for the upkeep of the church) and to bless the earth that farmers then sprinkle on the fields and in the stalls to ensure a good harvest and to protect their families and livestock.
