The Sandy Trail - T80 is a mountain bike trail for advanced users, which is also a lot of fun for very good bikers. It is characterized by its natural design in the best combination with sufficient jumps and airtime. Fabulous views of the emerald green Lake Ossiach are included. The trail entrance can be reached either via MTB Tour 12 (a bit easier) or via MTB Tour 14 (steep and better suited for e-bikes).

Author’s recommendation

Before heading to the start of the Sandy Trail, try the Andy Trail first. The descent on the Sandy Trail is only really fun when it can be safely driven. Please take a close look at the trail on the first ride down!

Safety information

Similar to ski slopes and hiking trails, approved mountain bike trails and mountain bike single trails are also divided into levels of difficulty. Essentially, the slope conditions, dangers, but also the condition of the path are decisive for the classification into very easy, easy, moderately difficult and difficult routes. It is recommended to start with the very easy level of difficulty (green) and to inspect each mountain bike trail well in advance.

Turn-by-turn directions

The Sandy Trail - T80 starts above the district of Ostriach directly in the forest and ends there at a forest path. Start

In order to reach the Sandy Trail - T80, it is best to start from one of the parking lots in the center of Ossiach. Starting from the car park in front of the municipal office, all transfer routes (feeder) to the trails are also signposted.

Description of access to the trail entrance:

Starting from the municipal office in Ossiach, first drive in the direction of the main road (L49). At the junction with the L49, turn right and follow the R2A cycle path west for around 1.5 km. At the entrance to Camping Kölbl you can now choose between a very steep driveway, which is more suitable for e-bikes, and a normal driveway.

Option 1 - the easier ascent via MTB Tour 12:

From the entrance to Camping Kölbl, follow the R2A cycle path for one kilometer. Along the bike path there is an MTB board with the instructions MTB Tour 12 and 13 to the left. Here you turn left via the L49 and follow the beginning of the forest path upwards. Be careful when crossing the main street! Simply follow the signs for MTB Tour 12 until you reach a sign that says “Transfer – Sandy Trail”. Here you turn left. Be careful because the first part down is a quite steep. If you don't dare to do this, you should push your bike for the first few meters. Now it is only a few meters to the start of the Van Durren trail. The Van Duren trail then takes you to the Sandy Trail entry point.

Option 2 - The very steep and difficult ascent via MTB Tour 14:

From the entrance to Camping Kölbl, turn left via the L49 (be careful when crossing the main road!) and follow the asphalt road up until you reach the start sign for the “Challenger Tour – 14”. Here you turn right onto the forest path and follow the very steep forest path and the signs for Tour 14 until you come to a sign that says 'Transfer - Sandy Trail'. Here you turn right and follow the tractor path. Now it is only a few meters to the start of the Van Durren trail. The Van Duren trail then takes you to the Sandy Trail entry point.

Sandy Trail – T80

Arriving at the trailhead, simply follow the course of the trail and the signs to the end of the trail. Once there, you can pedal back to the trailhead via a short, steep ascent.

Public transport

You can reach Ossiach with the post buses and the ships of the Ossiacher See Schifffahrt.

By road

Coming from Villach take the L49 to Ossiach.

Parking

There are enough parking spaces available in Ossiach - please don´t forget to pay the parking fee.

Equipment

Riding on the trail is only permitted with the necessary protective equipment (helmet, goggles, gloves, protectors and suitable shoes) and a mountain bike that is suitable for this area of use!

We also recommend to take along a mobile phone for making emergency calls and, of course, for taking photos, Another good ideas are to bring along a first aid kit, enough drinking water and a second suitable person with whom you can ride the trail together.
