Walk in the footsteps of the past. Go back into times when the borders between the states were still strictly controlled. 13 info boards and stations along the once well-guarded border await you on the theme hiking path from Arnoldstein to the border triangle between Austria, Italy and Slovenia. Embark on the journey and learn more about this unique place where also the largest language families in Europe meet.

Once at the summit, you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Lower Gail Valley, the Villach Basin and the Julian Alps, relax on the comfortable loungers and learn more about the three dirfferent countries you are looking at. A constant companion along the way is "Arni”, who explains the individual experience stations to the children and shows the location with his“ shadow ”.

Destination

Three-countries-corner - Austria, Italy and Slovenia

Turn-by-turn directions

The theme trail starts at the valley station of the Dreiländereck chair lift and leads on wide, partly steep and rocky paths (path No. 691) up to the mountain restaurant "Drei-Länder-Treff". If you prefer the easy way up, feel free to use the chair lift.

After a first stop with a view of the Dobratsch landslide area, follow the path (path No. 603) further west to reach the Dreiländereckhütte. At the latest on the way back you should try out Carinthian specialities at this hut, which is also taking part in the HüttenKult. From the Dreiländereckhütte you walk up over lush alpine meadows in a westerly direction to the summit of the Dreiländereck - the intersection of Slovenia, Italy and Austria. The ascent takes you back to the chair lift station of the Dreiländereck. You can either use it to get down quickly or you can follow the same way you came down to the valley station.
