Thumbelina calls! This new via ferrata on the Nassfeld is a must for all ambitious mountain fans! The "Däumling" was opened in August 2014 and is located on the impressive Gartnerkofel massif. The insured via ferrata in difficulty level B/C (at two points C) has a length of approx. 500 metres. From the top station of the Gartnerkofel 4-seater chairlift a short hiking trail to the entry point can be covered. To reach the highest point of the "Däumling", 150 meters of altitude difference have to be overcome. From the path up to the roof of the rock tower the rock climbers have a great view of the Carnic and Julian Alps. Afterwards there is an ascent to the summit of the Gartnerkofel (approx. 20 min.).

In addition to the magnificent view of the Carnic and Julian Alps, the "Thumb" offers some passages charged with adrenaline. The highlight is certainly the impressive "Nepal Bridge", which has to be crossed at a dizzying height. It is 40 metres long, swings under the foot of the mountaineers and therefore requires courage and a head for heights. Eventually, it goes down 100 metres to the left and right of the bridge.

Tips and hints

Mountain guide for the tour:

Of course there are also experienced guides in the region who will be happy to accompany you on this tour! If you lack basic knowledge, we recommend a mountain guide for safety reasons.

Further attractions & refreshment facilities at the Gartnerkofel:

In addition to the via ferrata, there are other attractions and refreshment facilities at the mountain station. Smaller children can, for example, let off steam at the natural mountain playground "Almrausch". There is also a new panoramic terrace with stone foundlings and display boards. There are great views from the new free-standing Sky Plate viewing platform.
